Preparing your Air Conditioner for Summer – Do-it-yourself Tips
Replace the air filter in your furnace. Central air conditioners use the furnace or air handler blower to circulate the cool air throughout your home. Ensure the power switch for the furnace is turned on throughout the cooling season so that the blower can continue to circulate the air conditioners cool air Set the thermostat to cool and replace the batteries if necessary Remove any vent covers and vacuum the dust from the air vents and ducts. If you have an air conditioner cover or if you place a sheet of wood overtop of the outdoor unit to reduce the buildup of debris, remove them. There will be an electrical service disconnect near the outdoor unit. Open it up and ensure the switch or the block is set to on.
